Welcome To Newcastle!
Have you ever ventured into Newcastle before? If you haven’t then you are missing out on a real treat because there are tons of things you can get up to in this city. What’s more it has a fascinating past that you can get to grips with too!
The proper name for the city is Newcastle upon Tyne. It was named thus because it is located on the bank of the River Tyne, and indeed the sight of the Tyne Bridge is a very famous one associated with the city. While this bridge may seem to have been a very integral part of the city for a long time, it was actually only built back in 1928.
Newcastle also has its own airport, which is located just a few miles outside the city itself. This links up with dozens of destinations in countries all over the world – opening up all manner of opportunities to visit other areas when you leave this amazing city.
Where can you go in Newcastle?
Newcastle has a wealth of places to go that will appeal to everyone who likes a taste of a great city. And as with all cities there are the not so well known spots as well as those that are famous.
One of the great things about Newcastle is the history that comes with it. It dates back to the Roman times, and one of the most famous historical sights that is associated with parts of Newcastle (as well as many other places in the north of England) is Hadrian’s Wall.
Indeed if you want to step back some eight hundred and fifty years in time, you can experience the Castle Keep that was situated on Hadrian’s Wall itself. Otherwise known as Pons Aelius, this in itself provides a great day out and a fine example of how the history of Newcastle is certainly not lost in time.
If you’d rather keep more up to date and enjoy a more modern day or evening out, then there are plenty of theatres and music venues to try out in the city. You can also learn more about every aspect of Newcastle upon Tyne by visiting one of the museums in the city.
A great example is the Discovery Museum, which is completely free of charge to get into. That makes it ideal if you have your family with you, but in any event it is very popular for other reasons too. There are plenty of exhibitions which delve into the distant and recent past of the city, so you are sure to learn plenty here.

It’s right in the centre of town and you can enjoy a picnic here if the weather permits it! There is a nice lake as well, so you’ll certainly benefit from putting your feet up and watching the rest of Newcastle go about its daily business.
But one of the main benefits of being situated next to a river is that you can stroll along the riverbank itself for a quieter appreciation of Newcastle.
